News Values

    Timeliness

"Germanwings Crash Investigation Hits Snag in Retrieving Data"

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/26/world/europe/germanwings-airbus-crash.html?ref=world&_r=0

This article is about a plane crash that has happened very recently, on top of that it was published today and had the most updated information. People care a lot about things that are happening now rather than things that happened even a week ago.

    Proximity
"Austin police arrest 45 during final SXSW weekend"
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2015/03/23/sxsw-arrests-austin-police-no-refusal-law/25209403/

For anyone in Austin, this may have interest just because it happened in Austin. Since these events happened so close to home, people are more likely to pay attention.

    Prominence
"Sarah Jessica Parker is 50 and fabulous"
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2015/03/25/sarah-jessica-parker-50/70423774/

The only reason this article even exists is because of Sarah Jessica Parker and her prominence. If people didn't know who this Sex and the City star was there would not be an article about her fabulousness.

    Impact
"Obama touts, GOP attacks 5-year-old health care law"
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/03/25/obama-affordable-care-act-john-boehner/70423238/

This has impact because of the way it effects people. If you live in the United States this health care law effects you, no matter who you are.

    Conflict
"9/11 investigation still open; disagreement persists"
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/03/25/911-fbi-investigation/70423820/

This article is about the on going conflict that surrounds 9/11. This is very much the meeting of two sides and people will be interested to hear about something so big.

    Human Interest
"Mom accused of beheading baby had hellish childhood"
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/03/25/mom-baby-beheading-childhood/70423154/

This article has human interest in the idea of a woman who behead her baby, a bad guy, might not be as guilty. In the article a lot is brought up about her "hellish childhood" and how that may have driven her insane.

    Novelty
"Rover finishes 11-year marathon on Mars"
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2015/03/25/mars-rover-opportunity-marathon/70425656/

This article is a novelty, it's not everyday we hear news from mars. This captures interest because of the other worldliness it holds and the ideas of humans spreading.

    Sensory Overload

What do you think about this statement?
I think this statement is very true, people now more associate an environment with the objects around them.
    Do you agree or disagree?

    I agree.
As an aspiring photographer how does this make you feel about your photography?

I think this makes me want to do some work with extremely bright colors.

    2. When you looked through the images, did you want to visit this place and take your camera?

Yes, it would be a very interesting experience.

    3. What do you think it would be like to be the child of someone who worked at this place?

I think that, with chinese culture as well, a child would be at work a lot with their parents. Since a lot of children would come to work, I would make friends and play around the booths all day.

    4. Describe your favorite photo to me.

In my favorite photo the booth is mainly comprised of inflatable balls, with some dolls as well. The shop keepers seem bored and the colors are bright and bold, contrasting off themselves. I also like the balls hanging from the ceiling, they fill a space that I had thought felt kinda blank compared to everything else in the other photos.

    Action Warm-Up

Why is this part of a winning sports photography portfolio?
This photo freezes the motion of the water well and could not have been a set up photo.

    What is the shutter speed?
Fast to capture the movement of the water.

    Is this a key moment?
Yes, because it was not planned and captures an interesting moment.

Could have this have been planned?
In part it could have, the photographer could have had them do it again, yet it would not capture the ground and the way the coach is completely unaware of the water about to hit him.
