What - Student of the month
Where - Bowie high school
When - This month, April
Why - He had the best grades and attitude
How -
Student
of the Month, it's something many students at Bowie High School strive for
and this month the dream became a reality for Michael Huerta. This
month Huerta stood out to teachers and fellow students alike with his good
grades and positive attitude.
Studying
hard and going out of his way to be kind all month, Huerta has certainly earned
his title for this April. this is the first time that Huerta has earned this
award this year but he also earned the award in his freshmen year of
2013.
"We're
all really proud of Michael." Huerta's brother, Adam Huerta told us,
"He works really hard at home and at school, he really deserves this
award."
Huerta
lives at him with his mother, father, and three brothers.
"I always try to set a good example for my younger brothers,"
Huerta said when we asked, "And I try my hardest to make my mom, dad, and
older brother proud."
"Michael
was an obvious choice." Huerta's Chemistry teacher, Josh Powel told us,
"He works tremendously hard at everything and he always comes to
class with a good attitude. It's no surprise that he has been chose for
this award twice."
Most of
Huetra's peers and teachers say the same. “He is outstanding in everything he
does, including his extracurricular band activities,” Band director Alex Hesako
says, “Not many people can keep up with grades as astounding as his alongside
the rigorous practice schedule he has to keep up with for band.”
“I use
flashcards to remember important information and make sure to highlight
important parts of my notes.” Huerta said when we asked him how he studies, “I make
sure to ask the teacher what part of the information I need to be focusing on
so I make sure I get it down.”
